My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26A heart’s passion and fiery zeal can grow dim. The flicker can fade. The strength of a heart can become exhausted due to questionable circumstances that are out of one’s control. The thoughts of one’s own heart can become clouded due to pain, distrust and broken promises made my fallible people like you and me. We get tired and just plain worn out. We find it harder to trust, to believe in someone’s words…we long to see action. Sometimes, we put mankind on a pedestal and when they fail us, then that’s how we view the Lord. Our perception of Him is skewed by men and women, like us, who don’t forgive, turn a cold shoulder, ignore completely or just simply walk away; we then look at the Father and question Him when He asks us to trust Him through a difficult season. This cycle must stop.
The strength of one’s own heart should not depend on what mankind can offer us on a silver platter or how they treat us. Our identity, even the security of who we are, should by no means be founded on the drifting feelings of whether we think we are accepted or not by others. The very fibers of our heart’s core need to be held in place by the hands of our Maker. The Lord, He alone, should be our portion and the strength of our hearts. The essence of who we are should reflect that our delight, passion, zeal and love for life come from the unshakable truth of knowing that we are His and He is ours.
You Are My Shield
By: Hillsongs United
I will bless the Lord forever,
And I will trust Him at all times.
He has delivered me from all things,
And He has set my feet upon the Rock.
I will not be moved, and I'll say of the Lord:
You are my Shield, my Strength, my Portion, Deliverer,
My Shelter, Strong Tower, my very present help in time of need.
Whom have I in heaven but You.
There's none I desire beside You.
You have made me glad, and I'll say of the Lord:
You are my Shield, my Strength, my Portion, Deliverer,
My Shelter, Strong Tower, my very present help in time of need.
My very present help in time of need.
